2024/2025 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) ADMISSION FORM ON SALE

The Management of Maritime Academy of Nigeria hereby invites suitably qualified candidates for admission into the various Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the Academy for the 2024/2025 academic session. Online registration opens on Monday, 5th August 2024, and closes on Monday, 30th September 2024. The duration of the Academy’s Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes is two(2) years (four semesters).

The following full time HND programmes are on offer:

  • 1. Nautical Science
  • 2. Marine Engineering
  • 3. Maritime Transport and Business Management

1.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1) MODES OF CORRESPONDENCE
Candidates seeking admission into the Academy must have a functional and accessible electronic mail (e-mail) address and mobile phone number for correspondence. Candidates are not required to present themselves physically, except on invitation through the Website Publication and e-mail/text message.

2) SSCE/ND REQUIREMENTS
A. Nautical Science
i)  Applicants must possess Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least FIVE (5) CREDIT passes in O/Level subjects which must include:
-   Mathematics,
-   English Language,
-   Physics,
-   Geography, and
-   Any other related science subjects obtained in NOT more than two (2) sittings.

ii)    Applicants must possess a National Diploma Certificate in Nautical Science with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of not less than 2.00 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other institutions accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The applicant must also have a JAMB Registration Number.

iii)   Applicants must have completed a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

iv)  Applicants with PASS at the National Diploma level must have completed a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

 

B. Marine Engineering
i)     Applicants must possess Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least FIVE (5) CREDIT passes in O/Level subjects which must include:
-     Mathematics,
-     English Language,
-     Physics,
-     Chemistry, and
-     Any other related science subjects obtained in NOT more than two (2) sittings.

ii)    Applicants must possess National Diploma Certificate in Marine Engineering with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.0 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other institutions accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The applicant must also have a JAMB Registration Number.

iii)   Applicants with ND in Boat and Ship Building Technology obtained from Maritime Academy of Nigeria with a CGPA not less than 2.50 (Lower Credit) are eligible to apply.

iv)  Applicants must have completed a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

v)   Applicants with PASS at National Diploma level must have completed a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or must have acquired a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

C. Maritime Transport and Business Management
i)     Applicants must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least FIVE (5) CREDIT passes in O/Level subjects which must include:
-     Mathematics,
-     English Language,
-     Economics, and
-     Any two (2) of Geography, Commerce, Government, Financial Accounting, Marketing or Business Management, obtained in NOT more than two (2) sittings.
ii)    Applicants must possess National Diploma Certificate in Maritime Transport and Business Studies with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of not less than 2.0 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other institutions accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The applicant must also have a JAMB Registration Number.

iii)   Applicants must have completed a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or acquired a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

iv)  Applicants with PASS at National Diploma level must have completed a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) post-ND Industrial Training (IT) with evidence or acquired a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) cognate work experience in a relevant organization.

2.0 ACADEMY TRANSCRIPT
Academic Transcripts of applicants from other accredited institutions must reach the Office of the Coordinator Academic Affairs on or before the close of the application portal, via the email address admission@maritimeacademy.gov.ng.

3.0  PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL FITNESS
1) Physical Fitness. Due to the peculiar requirements of the institution and the maritime industry as well as the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) as amended which mandates all Seafarers to be physically and mentally fit to work in the maritime industry, all applicants are expected to be physically and mentally fit to be able to withstand the rigours/challenges of the cadetship training. Consequently, shortlisted candidates will be required to present themselves for physical and medical screening when invited.

2) Medical Form. Candidate must print out the Medical Examination Form (Form M) from the application portal. This form must be duly completed and signed before uploading on the portal.

3) Medical Test. Candidates will be subjected to the following MEDICAL TESTS when invited for the admission screening exercise at the Academy:

  • - PCV
  • - VDRL
  • - HBV
  • - HIV1/2
  • - FASTING BLOOD SUGAR (FBS)
  • - PT (Pregnancy Test for Females)
  • - URINALYSIS
  • - GENOTYPE
  • - BLOOD GROUP
  • - DRUG

4.0   APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The application Form is available online at www.maritimeacademy.gov.ng Eligible candidates should take the following steps to start the registration process:

  • a. Create an Account
  • b. Log in using your Account Credentials
  • c. Generate RRR
  • d. Select the Mode of Payment of your Choice
  • e. Proceed to the bank of your choice to make payment Via Remita Payment Platform or pay online
  • f. Return to the Academy Portal to complete your Registration.

5.0   COMMENCEMENT/CLOSING DATES
1) Application Portal opens on 5th August 2024 and closes on 30th August 2024.
2) Medical Test Screening Exercise holds for invited candidates, from 14th – 25th October 2024 at the Academy’s Campus, 6 College Road, Oron Akwa Ibom State.
6.0 APPLICATION FEES
- Application Fee: N20, 000.00
- Payment Platform: Remita (as described in 4.0 above).

8.0 ADVISORY

  • a. All intending Cadets who are financially indebted to the Academy are required to offset the debt before applying.
  • b. Candidates with incomplete registration will be automatically disqualified.
  • c. Candidates who fail to upload all required document(s) will be automatically disqualified.
  • d. Only candidates who meet the minimum requirement as stated above will be invited for medical screening.
  • e. The Academy has zero tolerance for drug abuse, bullying, or any social violence. Please be guided.
