Marine and Blue Economy Minister highlights Landmark Achievements, Applauds MAN over Training Excellence The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola CON, has reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to revolutionising Nigeria’s maritime sector. This was made known during a high-profile media parley with members of the League of Maritime Editors in Lagos recently. Highlighting key milestones achieved under his leadership, the Honourable Minister commended the Maritime Academy of Nigeria for firming up standards in maritime training that has helped Nigeria in achieving an unprecedented feat of nearly five decades. He said, “Our ministry, through the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, has successfully admitted and trained foreign students for the first time in forty-seven years. Additionally, we have facilitated the training of 132 Deck and Engineering Cadets, equipping them with 5IMO/FAO mandatory certificates.” His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola also spoke on his ministry’s commitment towards strengthening maritime safety in the sea trade route, an initiative which according to him has resulted in Nigeria recording zero piracy in the gulf of guinea for the past one year. Beyond the above, the Minister's transformational strides covers the following areas: ports infrastructure and connectivity, fisheries and aquaculture, port operational efficiency, blue economy development, international protocols and engagement, shipping and maritime trade, amongst others. Present at the media briefing were the Permanent Secretary. Mr. Olufemi Oloruntola, the Director, Maritime Security and Safety, Mr. Babatunde Bombata and other senior officials from the ministry. The Acting Rector of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Dr. Kevin Okonna and other CEOs from agencies of the FMMBE were also in attendance.
