ONLINE REGISTRATION AND SALE OF HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) ADMISSION FORMS, 2026/2027 ACADEMIC SESSION
1.0 INVITATION
The Management of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria hereby invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for admission into the two-year (four(4) semester) full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session. Available programmes include:
- Higher National Diploma in Nautical Science,
- Higher National Diploma in Marine Engineering and
- Higher National Diploma in Maritime Transport and Business Management
Online registration and application open on Monday, 30th March 2026, and close on Thursday, 30th April 2026.
2.0 MODE OF CORRESPONDENCE
Candidates seeking admission into any of the above-listed programmes must maintain a
functional and accessible email address and mobile phone number for correspondence throughout the admission process. All admission processes are to be conducted through the Maritime Academy of Nigeria admission portal. Candidates are not expected to present themselves physically unless specifically invited via a website publication, email, or text message (SMS).
3.0 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
3.1 SSCE/NATIONAL DIPLOMA (ND) REQUIREMENTS
3.1.1 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE
- O-Level Requirements: Applicants for HND in Nautical Science must possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least five (5) credit passes in the following subjects, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings:
a) Mathematics
b) English Language
c) Physics
d) Geography
e) Any other relevant science subject.
- National Diploma: Applicants must hold ND in Nautical Science with CGPA of not less than 2.00 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other NBTE-accredited institutions listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). A valid JAMB admission letter is mandatory.
3.1.2 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN MARINE ENGINEERING:
- O-Level Results: Applicants for HND in Marine Engineering must possess Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least five (5) credit passes in the following subjects, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings:
a) Mathematics
b) English Language
c) Physics
d) Chemistry
e) Any other relevant science subject.
- National Diploma: Applicants must hold ND in Marine Engineering with CGPA of not less than 2.00 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other NBTE-accredited institutions listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). Applicants with an ND in Boat and Ship Building Technology (BST) from the Academy with CGPA of not less than 2.00 are also eligible. A valid JAMB admission letter is mandatory.
3.1.3 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN MARITIME TRANSPORT AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT:
- O-Level Results: Applicants for HND in Maritime Transport and Business Management (MTBM) must possess Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or its equivalent with at least five (5) credit passes in the following subjects, obtained in not more than two (2) sittings:
- Mathematics
- English Language
- Economics
- Any two (2) of Geography, Commerce, Government, Financial Accounting/Book keeping, Marketing, Business Management or Computer Science/Data Processing/ICT.
- National Diploma: Applicants must hold ND in Maritime Transport and Business Studies with CGPA of not less than 2.00 from the Maritime Academy of Nigeria or other NBTE-accredited institutions listed with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). A valid JAMB admission letter is mandatory.
3.2 INDUSTRIAL TRAINING (IT) REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements for Industrial Training (IT) apply to all applicants for the HND programmes listed in 3.1.1 to 3.1.3 above:
- Applicants with Lower Credit and above must have completed a minimum of one (1) year (12 months) of post-ND Industrial Training (IT) or cognate work experience in a relevant organization by 30th April 2026 or earlier.
- Applicants with a Pass grade must have completed a minimum of two (2) years (24 months) of post-ND Industrial Training (IT) or cognate work experience in a relevant organization by 30TH April 2026 or earlier.
3.3 ACADEMIC TRANSCRIPT REQUIREMENTS
Applicants from other accredited institutions must submit ND academic transcript, to the Office of the Co-ordinator, Academic Affairs, via the email address admission@maritimeacademy.gov.ng on or before the close of the application portal, on 30th April, 2026.
3.4 MEDICAL AND PHYSICAL FITNESS REQUIREMENTS
- Medical Form: Candidates must download, complete, and sign the Medical Examination Form (Form M) from the portal before re-uploading it.
- Physical Fitness: Due to the unique demands of the maritime profession and the regulatory requirements of the Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) Convention 1978 as amended, all applicants must be physically and mentally fit to endure the rigour of cadetship training. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend physical and medical screening when invited.
- Medical Tests: Invited candidates will undergo the following medical tests:
a) Packed Cell Volume (PCV)
b) Venereal Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL)
c) Hepatitis B Virus (HBV)
d) Human Immunodeficiency Virus Types 1 & 2 (HIV 1 & 2)
e) Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS)
f) Pregnancy Test (PT) – female candidates only
g) Urinalysis
h) Genotype
i) Blood Group
j) Drug and Alcohol Test
- Medical Screening: Medical screening will be conducted for shortlisted candidates on a scheduled date at the Maritime Academy of Nigeria campus, 4 College Road, Oron, Akwa Ibom State.
4.0 APPLICATION FEES
The cost of application form is ₦20,000.00, to be paid via Remita as described under the application procedure.
5.0 APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The application form is available at www.maritimeacademy.gov.ng. Eligible candidates should take the following steps to register:
- Click on "Admission."
- Select "HND Registration Portal."
- Create an account and login.
- Generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR).
- Select the mode of payment of your choice.
- Make payment via Remita (online or at any commercial bank).
- Return to the portal to complete the registration.
- Monitor your application status.
6.0 ADVISORY
- Debt Settlement: All applicants with outstanding financial obligations to the Academy must clear their debts before submission of application.
- Disqualification: Incomplete registrations—including unfinished forms or the failure to upload required credentials or submission of fake credentials —will result in automatic disqualification.
- Conduct: The Academy maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding drug abuse, bullying, examination misconducts and other social vices.
- Anti-Corruption: Admission is strictly merit-based. Candidates are warned against the activities of fraudsters or middlemen. The Academy does not authorize third-party agents to facilitate admissions.
- Communication: All correspondence regarding the admission process shall be conducted exclusively through the Academy’s official application portal. The Academy shall not be liable for any transaction or communication conducted outside the published channels.
- Mode of Study: The HND programme is strictly full-time. Applicants seeking part-time enrolment should not apply, as the Academy does not offer a part-time track.
